Do we still need proof of the benefits of Internal Communications?

Maybe it's a Monday afternoon thing, but coming across the following press-release-masquerading-as-a-study I felt a bit deflated.

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/03/prweb11623834.htm

This should be uplifting I guess - here we are in the business of internal communications, and this study comes along to say how beneficial internal communications are. What's not to like?

Except... hasn't this already been said? Like, many, many times over? Is anyone still sceptical about the benefits of good internal communications?

The more fertile ground for debate is just what constitutes 'good' communications.

Top-down or bottom-up? Closed or open? Mixed media or single channel?

And this debate won't end of course - because there is no right answer.

Whereas the answer to 'Are good internal communications beneficial to a company?' is - and has always been - a simple 'Yes'.

And I don't believe we need another study to confirm this.

I hope not too much time and money was spent on that study, the 5th benefit they missed was that having a robust internal communications strategy can .....well.....also improve communications.

Couldn't agree more. Perhaps they just wrote the press release off the top of their head? Does anyone actually check on these things after all?!
